Valet Parking for Meetings
May 28, 2024
Valet Parking will NOT be available for the June 19 Luncheon Meeting. FYI - Valet parking is contracted out by Lehigh Country Club only for very large attendance or multiple event sessions occuring on the same day. It is also not always available from the contractor service. When it is available, the cost to LVHNRA is $125 each time. We will evaluate, as needed, for special, large events that involve multiple groups/activities occurring at the LCC venue on the same day, and depending on the availability of a valet.
Friends of Nursing Awardee
May 28, 2024
Each year, the LVHNRA supports a Friends of Nursing Award with a $1000 donation. This year, Rebecca Sanchez, Interpreter Services, LVH-17th Street, received the Award for Excellence in the Promotion of Patient Care. Here is an excerpt from one of the letters of recommendation.
Imagine. You’re going into labor and the contractions are so unbearable, you can barely breathe.
Imagine. You haven’t felt your baby move all day and you are fearing the worst.
Imagine. You are postpartum and suddenly begin bleeding profusely.
Imagine. You hear your baby’s heartbeat slow to a crawl and you are rushed to the OR for an emergency
c-section.
Now imagine, in all of these scenarios, that you are unable to communicate with your providers.
In the labor and delivery unit, communication is paramount. Urgent and at times life or death situations occur on the labor and delivery unit daily. When time is of the essence, a live interpreter makes all the difference. They are there to explain quickly and efficiently while also providing comfort to our patients.
In the past, the hospital shared a pool of live interpreters. Seeing the amazing difference these interpreters made in our patient care was undeniable. One interpreter in particular, Rebecca Sanchez,
became an essential partner in our care for our Spanish speaking patients. We would joke with her “Can we just keep you? Can you just stay on our unit?” and Rebecca would say with a smile “I’m working on it”. . . . . .
Not only did she recognize our need for a
permanent interpreter, but she was instrumental in the implementation of a dedicated interpreting
team. Her passion for breaking down communication barriers and providing unwavering support to
patients and their families embodies the values we hold dear in our healthcare community.
There is perhaps no greater time of vulnerability in a person’s life than the experience of childbirth.
